Law360 Features Stueve Siegel Hanson as Privacy Practice Group of the Year

02.04.2020

On January 30, Law360 published its profile of Stueve Siegel Hanson LLP, its Cybersecurity & Privacy Group of the Year. The awards recognize practice groups that “worked on the biggest deals or achieved the biggest wins in the most important cases.”

The article recognized a number of the firm’s 2019 accomplishments, among them:

  • Securing final approval of a $1.5 billion settlement with Equifax in a nationwide class action resulting from its massive 2017 data breach;
  • Obtaining a $3.25 million settlement in a class action by optometrists following a data breach at the national testing organization for new eye doctors;
  • Serving on the steering committee for plaintiffs in multidistrict litigation stemming from the Marriott data breach;
  • Pursuing a consumer lawsuit accusing Facebook of tracking users’ location information even after they opt out of Location History features.

Stueve Siegel Hanson’s privacy team is led by partners Norman Siegel, Barrett Vahle and Austin Moore.

“People generally are still very much unaware of the amount of data they create, and the level of fundamental intrusion on their personal lives that this technology and this ecosystem has created,” Vahle told Law360. “And when they learn of this, they come to us.”

This is the second consecutive Practice Group of the Year honor for the firm; for 2018, Stueve Siegel Hanson was recognized as Food & Beverage Practice Group of the Year following its historic $1.5 billion settlement with Syngenta. It is the third award won from the publication’s 2019 series that honors the cybersecurity practice; Siegel and Moore were named among the MVPs of the Year and Rising Stars, respectively.
