07.01.2023

Stueve Siegel Hanson LLP is pleased to announce that Jillian Dent has been promoted to partner, effective July 1, 2023. Dent’s well-rounded litigation practice is shaped by her experience working as a corporate defense attorney at a leading global law firm, a judicial law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and now, at Stueve Siegel Hanson where she represents individuals in consumer, privacy, and products class-action litigation.

Since joining the firm in 2019, Dent has played key roles in many of the nation’s largest data breach class actions, helping to secure settlements that have established the firm’s industry-leading privacy and data breach practice.

For example, Dent helped secure a $190 million settlement with Capital One that was issued final approval in September 2022. The case, In re: Capital One Consumer Data Security Breach Litigation, stemmed from a data breach the company announced in July 2019 that was alleged to have compromised nearly 100 million credit applicants. In addition to leading discovery efforts, Dent successfully argued then defended on appeal the plaintiffs’ motion to compel the post-data breach forensic investigation report, which had been withheld on the basis of work product. Dent also managed the firm’s recent case against T-Mobile, In re T-Mobile Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, stemming from its August 2021 data breach, where she was one of the primary drafters of the 338-page consolidated complaint. The $350 million settlement received final approval in June 2023.

In parallel with her work in the emerging cybersecurity area of law, Dent has also played a key role in the firm’s recent products class action litigation on behalf of dairy farmers. She recently helped obtain a $55 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit against DeLaval Inc. on behalf of dairy farmers who purchased and were dissatisfied with DeLaval’s voluntarily milking system robots; and a nationwide settlement on behalf of dairy farmers in litigation related to Lely North America’s robotic milking system, the Lely Astronaut A4 (“A4”), that established a cash fund of $49,750,000, an Additional Pinch Sleeve Payment Program, an Extended Warranty Program, and a New A5 Trade-In Program.

Dent earned her J.D. from the University of Missouri School of Law, where she served as Editor in Chief of the Missouri Law Review, and a B.A. in English from the University of Pennsylvania. She was recognized by Missouri Lawyer’s Weekly as an Up and Coming Lawyer in 2021, and named to the Best Lawyers in America, Ones to Watch list for Commercial Litigators in 2023.
