$2.3 Million Settlement Approved in Citrix Data Breach Litigation
On June 11, 2021, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida granted final approval to a $2.3 million settlement on behalf of nearly 24,000 current and former employees of Citrix, finding that “the proposed settlement is fundamentally fair, reasonable, adequate, and in the best interests of the Class Members.”
Citrix, a global technology company that provides cloud computing software and remote access products, announced in March 2019 that hackers accessed Citrix’s internal network and exfiltrated terabytes of employee data over a 5-month period.
Stueve Siegel Hanson partner Austin Moore was appointed as co-lead counsel in the consolidated litigation and argued in favor of final approval.
The settlement offers an array of benefits for affected class members, including reimbursement of out-of-pocket losses, payments for time spent addressing the breach, identity restoration services, credit monitoring for adults and minors, and alternative cash payments.
In approving the settlement, the presiding judge Roy K. Altman held that “[d]ata breach cases in particular present unique challenges with respect to issues like causation, certification, and damages. By resolving the case early on in the litigation, Class Counsel avoided these difficult questions and ensured a successful result for the Class Members.”
