Nursing Home Abuse

The decision to place a loved one in a nursing home or assisted living facility can be difficult; we put the well-being of our family members in the hands of others, and we must trust that they will be properly cared for.

Unfortunately, seniors in nursing homes are among the most vulnerable to life-threatening consequences of abuse and neglect. Many nursing homes are understaffed or employ individuals who are undertrained on how to provide proper medical care and oversight.

In one study, 44 percent of nursing home residents said they had been abused at least once, while 95 percent said they had been neglected or witnessed the neglect of another resident. Many instances of abuse go unreported altogether. Nursing home abuse can take many forms, including:

  • Physical abuse and unexplained injuries
  • Sexual abuse from caretakers or other residents
  • Neglect, malnourishment and unattended medical needs
  • Inadequate medical treatment and medication errors
  • Financial exploitation

When care facilities neglect or abuse elders, families have the right to hold these organizations accountable. Stueve Siegel Hanson understands the gravity of elder abuse and neglect and will conduct a full investigation into your potential claims.
