Patrick Stueve and Norman Siegel named among 56 Best of The Bar

The Kansas City Business Journal has named Stueve Siegel Hanson partners Norman Siegel and Patrick Stueve among its Best of the Bar.

Best of the Bar is an annual list published “to provide the business community with a guide of whom to seek for the highest-quality legal advice.”

This year’s 53 honorees were chosen by an independent panel of judges selected from throughout the area’s legal community. In their selection process the panel considered nominees’ professional reputation, involvement in significant cases and civic involvement. 

Among recent accomplishments for Stueve and Siegel:

• Stueve serves as co-lead and class counsel for a case against agribusiness giant Syngenta on behalf of all U. S. corn growers and certain grain-handling facilities and ethanol plants nationwide. The case settled for $1.51 billion, considered the largest agricultural settlement in U.S. history. The case is currently on appeal before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. 
• The historic settlement followed a jury trial on behalf of just Kansas farmers where Stueve and his co-leads secured a $217.8 million jury verdict. 
• In April, Stueve was inducted as a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers at their annual meeting in London. The Academy is recognized as the most prestigious organization of trial lawyers in the world.  Membership is by invitation only and is strictly limited to 500 active trial lawyers in the United States
• Siegel led a team that secured a settlement valued at over $1.5 billion with Equifax in a nationwide class action resulting from its massive 2017 data breach. This historic settlement has been preliminarily approved. 
• Siegel was lead counsel in a class action that resulted in a $34 million jury verdict for State Farm policy owners against the insurance giant. The class action was brought on behalf of 24,000 current and former owners of universal life insurance policies issued in Missouri.
• Siegel represented a nationwide class of policy owners against John Hancock Life Insurance Company (U.S.A.) over alleged life insurance policy overcharges. The settlement, approved by the court in May 2018, provides that John Hancock will pay $59.75 million in cash compensation to approximately 103,000 policy owners.
