05.26.2020

Law360 announced today Stueve Siegel Hanson partner Norman Siegel has been selected as a winner of its 2020 Titans of the Plaintiffs Bar award. According to the publication, the award honors influential members of the plaintiffs bar who have had significant wins over the past year.

Siegel’s 2019 accomplishments substantially contributed to the burgeoning area of data breach and cybersecurity law including: engineering the historic $1.5 billion settlement with Equifax in a nationwide class action resulting from its massive 2017 data breach and obtaining a $3.25 million settlement in a class action by optometrists following a data breach at the national testing organization for new eye doctors; and being appointed co-lead counsel on behalf of plaintiffs suing Quest in the AMCA data breach, co-lead counsel on behalf of plaintiffs suing Capital One related it its massive data breach, and as co-lead counsel representing low income Americans and active military members against Intuit relating the company’s marketing of TurboTax as “free”.

Siegel also scored a victory in the Ninth Circuit, securing reversal of a summary judgement granted in favor of Experian Information Solutions by the district court in a class action lawsuit under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Following the remand, he secured class certification, leading to preliminary approval in January 2020 of a $24 million settlement – one of the largest ever secured under the FCRA.

As a 2020 Titan of the Plaintiffs Bar, Siegel will be profiled individually by Law360 in the coming weeks. The full list of honorees is available here. (Subscription required).
