Alyssa Mayer Berko

Alyssa Mayer Berko draws on fifteen years of experience as a judge, prosecutor, appellate law clerk and commercial litigator to represent clients in complex disputes. Having approached cases from nearly every side of the legal process, she brings a practical perspective to evaluating evidence, developing litigation strategy and presenting persuasive arguments.

Before joining Stueve Siegel Hanson, Alyssa served as an Associate Circuit Judge for Missouri’s 17th Judicial Circuit, where she presided over the cases assigned to her division and was responsible for evaluating evidence and legal arguments and rendering decisions in hundreds of cases. Building on her prior trial and appellate advocacy, her judicial service gives her a practical understanding of how courts test legal theories and factual records.

Alyssa previously served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Cass County, prosecuting hundreds of cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. She managed matters from the earliest investigative stages through jury trial, worked closely with law enforcement, made charging decisions, handled a substantial felony docket and regularly appeared in court. Earlier, as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Platte County, she also handled misdemeanor and felony prosecutions and argued an appeal before the Missouri Court of Appeals.

Between her prosecutorial roles, Alyssa served as an Assistant Attorney General for Special Litigation in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. She managed complex litigation and appeals involving the State of Missouri and its agencies in state and federal courts. She argued before the Supreme Court of Missouri and the Missouri Court of Appeals and worked with the Solicitor General’s office on appellate briefs across the Attorney General’s legal divisions. She also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, prosecuting federal firearms cases through a collaboration between the Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Alyssa also has private-practice experience in commercial litigation. At Husch Blackwell, she represented clients in the real estate, construction, insurance and manufacturing industries in matters spanning all stages of civil litigation. Her work included substantive motions and briefs, legal research, contract analysis, and the negotiation and drafting of multifaceted settlement agreements.

Early in her career, Alyssa served as a judicial law clerk to Judge W. Duane Benton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. In complex federal appeals, she researched and analyzed legal issues and drafted memoranda and opinions for judicial consideration. Together with her later experience arguing appeals and serving on the bench, the clerkship gives her a perspective informed by both trial and appellate advocacy.

Alyssa earned her J.D. from Washington University School of Law, where she served as an executive editor of the Washington University Law Review. She graduated summa cum laude and as valedictorian from Truman State University with a degree in political science.
