Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics Data Breach Lawsuit Investigation
Stueve Siegel Hanson, a national leader in data breach and privacy cases, is investigating potential claims against the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Bethesda, Maryland resulting from a data breach that exposed patients’ and employees' sensitive personal and medical information.
In September 2021, hackers were able to access employee email accounts through a phishing attack targeting sensitive date stored by the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics. An investigation revealed that both patient and employee data was impacted by the attack. According to the investigation, hackers had access to patients’ medical diagnoses and treatment information, as well as social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passports, financial account details, payment card data, and emails, usernames, and passwords.
For impacted employees and dependents, the stolen information could include dates of birth, medical diagnoses, treatments, social security numbers, and driver’s licenses. A smaller subset of individuals may have had passports, financial account details, payment cards, or user credentials impacted. Affected individuals are now at serious risk.
