Anthem Data Breach Lawsuit
On February 13, 2015, Stueve Siegel Hanson filed a class action lawsuit against Anthem, Inc. and Blue Cross of California in the Southern District of California on behalf of consumers who had their personal information compromised in the Anthem data breach.
The healthcare company has confirmed the breach of their system with personal information of approximately 80 million current and former members. This is the biggest known healthcare breach attributed to hackers to date.
The data that was accessed includes names, birthdates, medical IDs, Social Security numbers, addresses, e-mail addresses, employment information and income data of members and Anthem employees. This information is extremely valuable on the black market and can be used by criminals to submit false claims and facilitate insurance fraud.
Anthem’s system includes Anthem Blue Cross, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia and subsidiaries including Medicaid managed care and claims administration for self-funded plans.
