Norm Siegel Appointed to Marriott Data Breach MDL Consumer Steering Committee

On April 29, 2019, Judge Paul Grimm of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland appointed Stueve Siegel partner Norman Siegel as a member of the plaintiffs’ steering committee tasked with representing consumers in response to the massive data breach suffered by Marriott over a four-year period from 2014-2018.

Stueve Siegel Hanson initially filed suit in November 2018 after Marriott announced that hackers accessed its Starwood Hotels’ guest reservation system and stole the personal information for up to 383 million guests, including names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, gender, travel and account information, and more than 5 million unencrypted passport numbers.

The cases were consolidated and transferred to Judge Grimm after the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation held that the District of Maryland, where Marriott is headquartered, would best serve the convenience of the parties and witnesses and promote the just and efficient conduct of the litigation. Norman Siegel was previously appointed as co-lead counsel in the Home Depot and Equifax Data Breach MDLs, both of which were litigated in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Stueve Siegel Hanson is an industry-leader in data breach and cybersecurity litigation. Stueve Siegel Hanson attorneys have prosecuted cases involving the largest data breaches in U.S. history, securing millions of dollars for affected consumers.
