Dominion National Data Breach Lawsuit

On August 9, 2019, Stueve Siegel Hanson filed a class action lawsuit against Dominion National Insurance Company and its related entities in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia relating to a 9-year long data breach that affected nearly 3 million current and former plan members.

The lawsuit alleges that beginning in August 2010 and continuing through April 2019, one of the longest undiscovered breach period ever, hackers exploited glaring vulnerabilities in Dominion National’s databases to access the personal, financial, and medical information of current and former members of Dominion National and Avalon Insurance dental and vision plans, as well as current and former members of plans Dominion National provides administrative services for, including Capital BlueCross.

During this period, Dominion National failed to secure its databases containing massive amounts of consumers’ personal information, failed to detect the hackers’ presence, and failed to take any steps to investigate the numerous other red flags that should have warned the company that its systems were not secure – putting current and former plan members at a significant risk of identity theft, financial fraud, and other identity-related fraud into the indefinite future.

The stolen information includes names, addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, member ID numbers, group numbers, subscriber numbers, and for members who enrolled online through Dominion National’s website, bank account and routing numbers.

If you received a data breach notification letter from Dominion National and are interested in participating in the lawsuit, please call 1-816-714-7142 or fill out the form at the right side of this page.
