Stueve Siegel Hanson announces it has achieved final approval of a $19.5 million settlement with BP North America on behalf of residents and owners of property in Hartford, Illinois. The settlement follows an earlier $16 million settlement with Premcor Refining and Shell Oil Company, bringing the total recovered to $35.5 million.
The litigation, which continues against non-settling defendants, alleges that several petroleum and pipeline companies polluted the Village of Hartford by leaking gasoline into a massive underground pool. Residents have experienced vapor intrusion, lost value to properties and loss of enjoyable use of their homes.
